Our mission
Grupo Folklorico Alma Tapatia was created to share the magic of mexican folklore with Kansas City and beyond. We believe culture is celebrated and preserved with dance and music. Through performances and educational classes, we strive to honor tradition, build community, and inspire a deeper appreciation for Mexican heritage. All are welcome to join—regardless of background or dance experience.
We envision Kansas City as a thriving home for Mexican folklórico—where dance strengthens cultural pride, builds community, and inspires connection beyond the stage.
MEET THE MAESTRAS

Alexa García Laínez
Director
Alexa began dancing folklórico over 20 years ago, developing a deep appreciation for the vibrant vestuario, intricate footwork, and rich music found across the many regions of México. In the Summer of 2020, she pursued formal pedagogical studies at the Escuela del Ballet Folklórico de México, where she earned her certification. Since then, Alexa has continued her training with respected teachers from various regions, expanding her understanding of regional styles, cultural context, and performance practices. Born and raised in Kansas City, Alexa is committed to creating a space rooted in education, community, and cultural pride- right here at home.
