Ana V. Figueroa Marín

Veracruz Sotavento

Ana is a professional dancer and educator with over 20 years of experience in Mexican folkloric dance. She holds a Licenciatura en Danza Folklórica Mexicana from the Escuela Superior de Artes de Veracruz and is a certified instructor through the Escuela Industrial Concepción Quirós Pérez, with additional training from ICATVER. Her academic background includes an international certification as a Professor of Traditional Dance from Fundación México Tradición, Cultura y Sociedad and a diploma in Mexican Folkloric Dance from Universidad Veracruzana (2020). She has been teaching since 2011. Ana has been a principal dancer with Ballet Folklórico de Veracruz for two decades, performing throughout Mexico and internationally in the United States, Venezuela, and Canada, and currently serves as an assistant instructor. She has also danced with Cásasco y Caña Escena Latinoamérica and the Ballet Folklórico de la Universidad Veracruzana, and continues to participate in national and international training, performances, and projects.

Luis H. Olivas

Nuevo Leon

Luis Olivas was born in Durango, Mexico. He trained with Compañía Folklórica Raíces del Tecnológico de Monterrey (2015-2021), where he performed nationally and internationally including several editions of Mariachi Vargas Sinfónico, and served as choreographer in 2021. He holds a Diploma in Folklórico Pedagogy from the Escuela Ballet Folklórico de Amalia Hernández. Since 2023, Luis has worked as a choreographer and instructor with groups in Ohio (BF Xochihua) and Wisconsin (BFUW-Madison and BF Itzae). He has been an active member of the Asociación Nacional de Maestros de Danza Popular Mexicana (ANDPM) since 2024. He developed Ritmos Norteños Workshops, dedicated to sharing northern Mexican dance traditions, including Nuevo León and Durango. He has presented the workshop in Michigan, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Washington. In 2026, he founded Chicahuac: Compañía Folklórica de Madison. He is the founder of Ritmos Norteños Workshops and Chicahuac: Compañía Folklórica de Madison (2026).

Omar A. López is a Mexican American folklórico dancer, choreographer, and educator from McAllen, Texas. With over 13 years of experience, he has taught master classes and workshops for students and directors across the United States, sharing his passion for Mexican dance and culture. His teaching emphasizes both technical precision and cultural authenticity, helping dancers deepen their connection to tradition. Through every workshop, Omar strives to inspire confidence, community, and pride in the art of folklórico.

What is Corazon y Zapateado?

It is a 3-day intensive folklorico workshop for passionate dancers from all over. We are bringing four incredible maestros who are ready to share dances from four regions with you all. This is our inaugural year, and we’re so excited to finally bring this idea to life!

Registration & Cost

To register for the 3-day folklórico intensive, participants must complete the registration form and submit a $100 deposit to secure their spot. The deposit will be applied toward the total registration cost.

Participants who submit their deposit between February 14 and March 28 will receive the Early Bird rate of $200 total. Deposits submitted on or after March 29 will be charged the regular rate of $235 total.

The remaining balance is due by May 1. Registration and payments will close on May 1.

With over 20 hours of instruction from four maestros, this intensive offers a rare opportunity to study multiple regions in one weekend at a highly accessible cost.

Refund Policy: The $100 deposit is fully refundable if cancellation is requested on or before April 18. After April 18, refunds cannot be provided; however, registrations may be transferred to another participant if you are unable to attend.

Schedule

Each dancer will have four 1hr and 45min classes per day. Full schedules will be released closer to the workshop weekend.

Materials

We’ll send a detailed list of materials before the workshop so you have everything you need for a smooth weekend.

Location

All classes will be hosted at the Michael and Ginger Frost Production Arts Building located at 712 E. 18th Street, Kansas City, MO.

Parking is available there, at Goodwill next door, behind the building at 1725 Holmes St. KCMO, and on the street.
